Bellevue is Beautiful

Monday, April 4, 2011

By Valerie J. Calderon

I’m a relative newcomer to the Omaha area, and I was surprised to learn that Bellevue is the oldest city in Nebraska, founded in 1822 when a fur trading post was established there. I think it is fitting that a town with so much history was the stage for the Pacesetter 13s season opener. The Pacesetters certainly lived up to their own rich tradition and kicked off the year with 4 wins and no losses.

With the help of sunny skies and calm winds, the Pacesetters’ bullpen took the mound six pitchers deep, allowing only 6 runs in four games  against the Bellevue Braves and the Frozen Ropes Tigers.

Every player contributed on offense with big hits and a bundle of RBIs. On defense, a tight infield which had only three (well, ok, maybe four) errors on the weekend and a solid outfield supported the pitching game.

Congratulations on a good weekend, Pacesetter 13s. You won with grace, and showed you are willing to learn, compete, and win as a team. You were respectful and respectable athletes. Looks like my wish list is already well on its way to coming true.

The Pacesetter 13s open on their home field at the Sandlot on Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m.
